All of our youth programmes and opportunities are available to organisations working with young people and are members of NE Youth. They are flexible to meet the needs of your service and NE Youth can deliver direct and/or give you the resources, funding and support throughout each of our programmes.
For many young people right now they are feeling pretty anxious and concerned about job prospects when they leave school due to the impact of COVID-19. The fact is at the moment it is still very uncertain what the future will look like, but it’s more important than ever that young people do everything they can to make sure they stand out from the crowd.
Young people will learn so many personal and social development skills throughout our programmes and workshops and will also receive a certificate of achievement and/or a national Youth Achievement Award or accreditation on completion of our programmes/workshops.
For more information on any of our funded programmes and grants, please contact Louise Laws, Development Manager do discuss how your organisation can get involved – Louise@neyouth.org.uk or call 07814422783.

Google / You Tube – Be Internet Citizens
Funded by Google and YouTube who want a safe and exciting web where young people can be creative, express themselves and belong. Be Internet Citizens is an educational programme designed to teach media literacy, critical thinking and digital citizenship, encouraging young people to be safe users of the internet / social media and positive voices both online and offline, increasing their knowledge, confidence and resilience.
This fun and informal education workshop is relatable and engaging and will teach young people topics like fake news, biased writing, echo chambers, filter bubbles, emotional manipulation, scapegoating and the ‘us versus them’ mentality, as well as free speech verses hate speech.
Our aim is to build a safe yet inspiring online space where young people aged 13-19 years can be empowered to learn, to share, to be creative, to express themselves and to experience a sense of belonging as digital citizens. While most young people today have grown up as digital natives, many lack the critical thinking and media literacy skills which are key to practicing positive digital citizenship. All young people participating will also receive a certificate of achievement.
Cost: FREE – This programme is fully funded for young people aged 13-19 years and group delivery can be face to face, virtually or via a blended delivery approach.
Sport England – Outdoor Activators
Funded by Sport England and #iWill, Outdoor Activators is a short youth led social action programme for young people aged 12-19 years. The grant is for young people to engage in a meaningful ‘plan-do-review’ social action model (between 4/10 hours) based on issues they are passionate about, through being active in the outdoors. We will provide the structure, support and seed funding (a minimum of £250) for the young people to lead a quality social action project that will develop their life skills, and hopefully encourage the habit of volunteering, whilst understanding the benefits to everyone in their local communities.
The group will need to identify two young volunteers/leaders to take more of an active role. This will also be recognised by achieving their Youth Achievement Challenge Award, which is great for their CVs. The group will also receive a further £100 for a celebration event or activity of their choice. All young people participating will also receive a certificate of achievement.
Cost: FREE – This programme is fully funded to support young people aged 12-19 years.
UPS Road Code
The Road Code Programme was a recent 2020 winner of ‘Partnership Scheme of the Year’ in the FirstCar Young Driver Road Safety Awards for the UK Youth and UPS partnership! 🏆
NE Youth are really proud to be a North East delivery partner in the Road Code programme since 2017, working with UK Youth and the UPS team to promote the road safety awareness message, engaging and supporting young people with skills and confidence to speak up in potentially dangerous driving situations in and around cars. UPS believe that many teenage motor vehicle crashes are preventable, and that proven strategies can improve the safety of young drivers on the road.
Road Code is a fun, engaging and interactive awareness programme which supports young people aged 13-19 years (up to 25 for young people with additional needs) and provides them with the awareness, skills and confidence to speak up in potentially dangerous driving situations.
Our innovative workshop uses discussions, media, virtual reality technology and driving simulators giving a ‘behind the wheel’ experience. It focuses on driver, passenger, and pedestrian safety to make young people aware of how to keep themselves and others safe in and around cars. All young people participating will also receive a certificate of achievement.
On completion of the programme, young people can access youth led community challenge peer educator funding to support them to be creative and share the road safety messages they have learnt to inspire others in their communities to be safe in and around cars.

The programme is youth led so the young people have ownership and will receive funding which can be used for delivery, resources, training etc to support them to make their project happen.

Healthy and Happy
Micro Grants Scheme
The theme of our 85th Anniversary year is Happy and Healthy which we believe are both core elements to young people being able to live a fulfilled lives. In order to support developments in these two areas we will be providing three rounds of grant given to our Connected Members in the 2020/2021/22 membership year:
HEALTHY AND HAPPY MICRO GRANTS
We are offering small grants for young people to access with the following criteria:
– Needs to be young person led
– Needs to be linked to the Healthy and Happy theme
– Potential activities could include: a programme of yoga instruction for a group of young people; resources needed to run a regular sporting or physical activity; development of a campaign of positive messages to share with other young people. Or whatever other creative ideas young people come up with!!
– We encourage, wherever possible, that micro grants are used on activities that will have a sustainable element e.g. trying a new sport, attending training, learning a new skill, the creation of a campaign.
There are two types of grants available:
Micro Grant: Up to £400 We want to support young people to make their ideas for activities around the theme of Happy and Healthy a reality and we encourage young people to think creatively!
Social Action Grant: Up to £1,200 We know that young people who feel connected to their communities through social action activities tend to be happier, have wider friendship groups and have increased resilience and skills. Social action activity proposals must demonstrate a wider community benefit.
There will be a minimum of two rounds of funding held before March 2021. Applications are limited to one Micro Grant and one Social Action Grant per organisation for the duration of this funding.
We expect all successful projects to produce a short (1-2 minute) video of how the grants have made a difference.
