Inspiring and empowering young people is at the heart of all NE Youth do.
International Women’s Day celebrations are a great way for us to spend some quality time with the girls and young women we work with. This is important as it allows us to discuss gender-specific issues as well as mental health and wellbeing.
For International Women’s Day 2023 on the 8th March, NE Youth were proud to be involved in 2 fabulous events that have given our girls life-long memories as well as raising vital funds to support our work.
The This Girl Can 5km event was hosted by Newcastle City Council and we invited girls, volunteers and staff from our Newcastle and Gateshead based youth groups to participate.
Our participation in this event was made possible thanks to our sponsors Arian EMS. They generously sponsored the transport, t-shirts and tutus for our girls. We had over 30 young people in attendance, with some quotes below:
“This is the first time I’ve done a 5km and I ran the whole way, it was so good.”
“This was so good, I can’t wait to do it again next year.”
“Was great it being just us lasses from youth group.”
The second event in the evening was an International Women’s Day gathering at The Wood Oven in Wylam. Women came together to raise funds to support NE Youth’s services for young women and girls.
Loyal supporters David Gray Solicitors sponsored this event, as they have done for many years.
Anna Foster from BBC Newcastle came along to say a few words about what NE Youth means to her as an Ambassador. She also encouraged the ladies to learn more about NE Youth and to buy lots of raffle tickets!
Channy, North East singer songwriter, sang some classics from female greats including Pink, Whitney and Beyonce. Everyone sang along and danced the night away.
We raised an amazing £1,325 from the raffle with prizes from Nest Restaurant, The Wood Oven, Bag Mamas, Defined Beauty and Massage Lanchester, The Batt House, Stay on the Hill, Union Jab, Hardwick Festival, Green Beauty Wylam and Close House.
Check out this amazing coverage of the evening!
Thank you to all the businesses and individuals who made our International Women’s Day celebrations a huge success.
