NE Youth are delighted to announce that the Garfield Weston Foundation have awarded a £150,000 grant over 2 years in unrestricted funding.

This is a significant contribution to our running costs and will enable us to deliver strategic support to grassroots youth services as well as direct work with young people across the North East.

In particular, this funding will enable us to support the sector in County Durham. This is an area of high priority which has faced an 80% reduction in youth service spend from the Local Authority compared to 2010.

This award follows many years of support from the Garfield Weston Foundation, including us winning one of the first Weston Charity Awards in 2014.

As an organisation, NE Youth have identified a significant increase in the demand for youth services following years of cuts, the pandemic and the cost of living crisis. This has impacted young people’s confidence, health and wellbeing and outlook on life.

This grant award will have a huge impact on the services we can deliver over the next 2 years and beyond, enabling more young people access to needs-led and impactful services that support their development.

On the news of this grant award, NE Youth’s CEO, Jon Niblo, said:

“We were delighted to hear the news of the £150,000 grant from the Garfield Weston Foundation over 2 years and would like to thank the Staff and Trustees at Garfield Weston for their incredible support. We strongly encourage any other organisation delivering youth services in the North East to apply and would be happy to support our Members with the application process.”

This grant will enable NE Youth to make a positive difference in the lives of thousands of young people over the next 2 years.
