On Sunday, 10th September 2023, twenty-two NE Youth supporters joined 60,000 others to compete in the Great North Run, in what was to be Sir Mo Farah’s last race.
Included were a number of staff who work for our longstanding and loyal supporter the Inn Collection Group. There were also a number of returning supporters from the previous year’s race, including one of our amazing Trustees, Dave. We were also honoured to have an incredible young boy run the mini Great North Run for us too. The son of one of our youth work and programmes support workers, Sonny, aged 4, simply couldn’t wait to don his NE Youth running vest and run as fast as he could to the finish line. He raised a fantastic £245 and we were absolutely thrilled with his achievements. Well done Sonny!
To the delight of the crowd, Eddie Howe officially kicked off the 2023 Great North Run, which saw Sir Mo compete in his last competitive race.
The weather at the start of the race was glorious. The weather at the end of the race not so. Although the rain may have dampened the runners’ sports attire, it certainly didn’t dampen their spirits or take the shine away from their achievements.. Once over the finish line, many of our runners joined us at the Charity Village to celebrate their achievements and devour some well-deserved refreshments.
We want to thank all our runners for their dedication and commitment in raising vital funds for NE Youth. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you. Thank you also to every single person who made a donation. So far we have raised nearly £8,000, and the donations are still coming in! Every penny raised contributes to the essential work we do with some of the most disadvantaged young people in the north east.
