On the 22nd August 2022, NE Youth’s Lemington Youth Project hosted their Inspire 2022 event, the ‘Lemington Be Real Fun Day’.

The event was focused on young people’s wellbeing and hearing the views of young people on body image and self-esteem.

There were a number of great activities for the young people to take part in, including festival face paint, Nail Art, DJ/Karaoke, Graffiti Art, Arts and Crafts, Sports, boxing exercises, healthy wraps and a game on educating young people on the levels of fat and sugar in certain foods.

The young people were asked to make a Pledge to themselves, to win vouchers for Inflate Space.

Overall we had 16 new young people attend the Lemington Inspire Event as well as 9 regular members of young people.

Some of the Young People’s Pledges:

‘I make a pledge to… take up more boxing’

‘I make a pledge to… try not to swear’

‘I make a pledge to… take a picture without a filter’

‘I make a pledge to… be more confident’

‘I make a pledge to… stick in at college and pass my course to get my dream job’

‘I make a pledge to… continue never using filters’

‘I make a pledge to… do more sports and top being angry’

The young people involved in planning the event said:

‘Running the event made me feel happy and more confident’

‘It was good for people to get out of the house and have something to do’

‘We ran this event to have fun and make people happy’

‘I was inspired to run this event to meet new people, and to help young people with body image issues’

This was all made possible thanks to funding from Newcastle Youth Fund and UK Youth’s Inspire 2022 programme. Inspire 2022 is funded from Spirit of 2012 and the #iwill Fund, (a joint investment between The National Lottery Community Fund and Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport), designed in partnership with Local Trust, and delivered by UK Youth.
